The essence of addiction is feeling powerless over compulsive behavior while life becomes increasingly unmanageable. It can bring shame, isolation, relationship problems, work difficulties, and despair. SAA offers a place to speak honestly without judgment.
You do not need to be certain or have everything figured out before attending. At your first meeting, you may simply listen.
A private reflection
Could sexual behavior be affecting your life?
Patterns of secrecy, escalation, guilt, risk, or repeated unsuccessful attempts to stop may be signs that support could help. This is not a diagnosis—you decide whether SAA is right for you.
Ask yourself whether sexual or romantic behavior has:
- Created secrets or a double life
- Interfered with relationships, work, values, or health
- Required more frequency or variety for the same relief
- Left you feeling shame, hopelessness, or isolation
- Continued despite your sincere efforts to stop
Our program
The Twelve Steps
The steps offer a spiritual solution without requiring adherence to a specific religion or set of beliefs.

We admitted we were powerless over addictive sexual behavior—that our lives had become unmanageable.
- 02
Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
- 03
Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood God.
- 04
Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
- 05
Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
- 06
Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
- 07
Humbly asked God to remove our shortcomings.
- 08
Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
- 09
Made direct amends wherever possible, except when doing so would injure them or others.

Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God.

Having had a spiritual awakening, we carried this message and practiced these principles in our lives.

How do I know if SAA may be right for me?+
Sexual addiction can involve obsession, compulsion, secrecy, or repeated behavior that makes life feel unmanageable. No one at a meeting will label you. You decide for yourself.
What happens at my first meeting?+
You only need to share your first name. You are welcome to listen, and you will never be required to describe anything that makes you uncomfortable.
What does the program cost?+
There is no fee. Meetings accept voluntary contributions for room rent, coffee, and literature. Newcomers are asked not to contribute at their first meeting.
Are meetings confidential?+
Yes. Anonymity is central to the fellowship: who you see and what you hear at a meeting stays there.
Is SAA religious?+
No. SAA is a spiritual program and does not require a particular religious belief. Churches often host meetings simply because they provide meeting space.
How many meetings should I attend?+
Newcomers are encouraged to attend six meetings before deciding whether the program is right for them.
